The Virginia Creeper Trail
The Virginia Creeper National Recreation Trail is a 34-mile rails-to-trail experience that spans from Abingdon to Whitetop Station in Southwest Virginia. It is prized for its scenic and rural beauty throughout every season, becoming an economic engine to all communities along the trail. All who come to enjoy the trail have a civic obligation to protect its beauty, including lands and vistas that may impose on visitors'
experience of the trail.
Welcome to Friends of Abingdon, Inc.
Friends of Abingdon is a non-profit volunteer organization committed to preserving the historic and scenic landscape and the human-scale character of Abingdon, VA. It pursues this goal by:
•supporting Abingdon’s Comprehensive Plan 2027 (see Documents) and working to reverse the conflicting recent rezoning of part of a historic farm known as The Meadows that allows development of a major traffic-generating and unsightly shopping center that would be built in the I-81, Cummings St., and Virginia Creeper National Recreation Trail viewshed;
•protecting the threatened in-town viewshed of the Virginia Creeper National Recreation Trail;
•working toward transparent and participatory Town Governance and land-use planning, through monitoring, information collection and dissemination, legal action, and the electoral process.
Pursuit of these aims, Friends of Abingdon, Inc. asks for your tangible support. To become a member, click here. To make a monetary contribution, click here. Join our mailing list below to stay current with upcoming activities and how to support our effort. Your involvement is greatly appreciated.
